Are you concerned about wasting flour when there are people starving in the world?

We deeply sympathize with the plight of those suffering from hunger.

We also note that world hunger is not an issue of production, but rather of distribution. There is no shortage of flour in the world.

WorldHunger.com reports that,

“The world produces enough food to feed everyone. For the world as a whole, per capita food availability has risen from about 2220 kcal/person/day in the early 1960s to 2790 kcal/person/day in 2006-08, while developing countries even recorded a leap from 1850 kcal/person/day to over 2640 kcal/person/day. This growth in food availability in conjunction with improved access to food helped reduce the percentage of chronically undernourished people in developing countries from 34 percent in the mid 1970s to just 15 percent three decades later. (FAO 2012, p. 4) The principal problem is that many people in the world still do not have sufficient income to purchase (or land to grow) enough food.”

The facts are clear: Using flour for our campaign in no way takes food out of the mouths of starving people. The issue of world hunger is deeper and more systemic.

We encourage anyone who feels deeply about this issue to take effective action to solve the problem at the root causes, as we are doing our best to do with the issue of sex trafficking.

Are you concerned about the challenge triggering respiratory issues?

We’re assuming that anyone with pre-existing conditions, such as asthma, will use their discretion and simply donate to Operation Underground Railroad and forego the actual challenge.

Also, research shows that any respiratory issues from flour come only from prolonged and heavy exposure. If this is a concern for you, we encourage you to wear a mask and goggles. Or, simply donate here at www.FlourBomb.com.

What am I supposed to say in my video, and how do I post it?

Read the detailed instructions here.

What hashtags should I use when I post my video?

Use #flOURbomb and #OURrescue.

Whom should I challenge? Can I challenge people I don’t know, like celebrities?

The best people to challenge are your close friends who 1) you know will accept the challenge, and 2) who are active on social media.

Do NOT challenge celebrities or other people you don’t know — they won’t even see your video and it will be a waste.
